Tuesday 27th February

Busy day today without the baby. Sophie has a nanny that comes in three times a week to give her a break from baby care. So we made the most with a day out. First was a visit to the old town where all the foreign embassies are situated. Next to which are the souqs. To get there you have to get a small ferry boat across the river. It’s mainly spice and gold that are on offer. Lots of gold, lots of gold. You do tend to get pestered by traders trying to sell you anything from perfume to fake watches. Interesting morning.

The Dubai men’s tennis tournament is currently taking place so Sophie had booked a couple of tickets to attend. I’m not a big tennis follower but it was interesting to see. There were three courts and we had tickets up in the gods for centre court. Not Wimbledon but nice stadium. We watched the first match before having to get back home to let the nanny go. What was surprising was you could bring a beer into the stands.

Monday 26th February

Well I made it to Dubai in one piece getting in around 8am local time. In the end I caught a taxi out to Sophie’s complex which took about 30 minutes. It’s right out in the desert south of Dubai. Nice gated complex with swimming pool and gym.

The first couple of days have been quiet getting back into the swim of travelling. On Saturday we went to see the cycle race outside the front door. It was the UAE men’s tour. Blink and you’ve missed it.

Sunday was swimming day with baby in the pool. Lovely. I’ve been doing most of the cooking to help out in the house as Chris has gone skiing in France. No problem as I enjoy it anyway.

Today we’ve been out to a nature reserve about twenty minutes south of here. Lots of different birds to see. It was called Love Lake and in the shape of a heart.

First day 21st February 2024

Well boys and girls we are off again!!!

Ive got an overnight flight to Dubai for ten days to visit Sophie plus family. Since I last wrote Sophie has had a baby girl along with her husband Chris. It will be nice to see them and Betsy again. Betsy has just hit six months and coming along just fine.

From Dubai I’m heading down to Melbourne to visit Louise . She’s been there for over a year now. The plan is to stay three weeks with her and pick up a bought or rented camper van and head up the east coast as far as I get. Then back to Dubai and back home 1st June.

Hopefully you’ll keep in touch over the next few months.
